It was initially announced on Saturday that Angel Reese's status for Sunday's Dallas Wings-Chicago Sky game was in question. The Sky's playoff chances took a major blow with Reese's massive announcement on Saturday night, however. Reese revealed that she will miss the rest of the season due to a wrist injury, via her X (formerly Twitter) account.
"What a year. I never would have imagined the last bucket of my rookie season would be a 3 but maybe that was God saying give them a taste of what they will be seeing more of in Year 2 lol," Reese wrote. "Through it all, I have showed that I belong in this league even when no one else believed. All I have ever wanted was to come into the W and make an impact. I can confidently say I have done that and will strive to keep doing so. I’m filled with emotions right now that I have a season ending injury, but also filled with so much gratitude for what is next.
"Although this is God’s timing and not mine, I am finally able to give myself a physical and mental break. 'God gives his hardest battles to his strongest soldiers.' You’ll still see me being the biggest cheerleader on the sideline! And Unrivaled league, see you soon!"
Reese enjoyed a terrific rookie season. The Sky still have an opportunity to clinch the No. 8 seed in the WNBA postseason. Doing so without Reese will prove to be an immense challenge, though.
Angel Reese's 2024 season comes to an end
Reese made a strong WNBA Rookie of the Year case. She consistently made history and broke records throughout the season.
Caitlin Clark will likely win the Rookie of the Year Award but that shouldn't take away from everything Reese accomplished in 2024. She ultimately recorded 13.6 points and 13.1 rebounds per outing. Reese led the WNBA in rebounds per game.
Her future in the WNBA is bright without question. She has a legitimate opportunity to establish herself as one of the best players in the game. She already displayed no shortage of signs of stardom in 2024.
The Sky will attempt to sneak into the postseason despite this unfortunate Reese injury update. Perhaps they will come together and win for her. Either way, the team has potential to compete for years to come as Angel Reese leads the way.
