Aliyah Boston was the 2023 No. 1 overall pick in the WNBA Draft. She is a two-time All-Star who will likely earn her third selection in 2025. Yet, Boston is still underrated, as she does not receive nearly enough attention.
Playing alongside the most popular player in the WNBA has surely played a role in Boston becoming underrated. Caitlin Clark receives no shortage of attention, and she is a star as well. However, Boston is one of the better players in the league and she has quietly established herself as an MVP candidate.
Aliyah Boston should be an MVP candidate
The Fever are trying to find consistency overall. Indiana holds an 8-8 record as of this story's publication. Boston, though, is arguably having the best season of her WNBA career.
The 23-year-old is currently averaging 15.9 points, 8.2 rebounds, 3.6 assists and 1.3 blocks per outing. She is also shooting 59.7 percent from the field.
Boston's points per game average would be a career-high if the season ended today. Her rebounds per game average has dropped a bit, but it's still right around her career average. She has taken a step forward as a play-maker, as her assists per outing average would also be a career-high.
She is shooting at a more efficient rate than ever around the basket. Boston has continued to improve her scoring, and she has become almost unstoppable in the paint.
On the defensive end of the floor, Boston continues to take steps forward as well. She has become a reliable paint presence who can contain ball-handlers driving to the basket. Tall centers and forwards also endure trouble when trying to score against Boston.
Aliyah Boston's overall game is tremendous. She is a superstar. However, she has never received an MVP vote. That may need to change in 2025.
Fever's 2025 season
Boston is looking to lead the Fever as Clark is dealing with an injury at the moment. Indiana's next game is scheduled for Tuesday night against the Minnesota Lynx on the road. Following that contest, the Fever will play five consecutive games in front of their home fans in Indiana. The five contests should provide Indiana with an excellent opportunity to get over the .500 mark and climb the standings in the Eastern Conference.
With Boston playing at a high level, the Fever should have a chance to get things going sooner rather than later.
