The primary focus was football on Sunday as the Kansas City Chiefs and Philadelphia Eagles went head-to-head in the Super Bowl. However, the WNBA received some attention as well.
Las Vegas Aces and Indiana Fever stars A'ja Wilson and Caitlin Clark were among the athletes featured in a Nike Super Bowl commercial. There were other WNBA stars as well as athletes from different sports featured as well.
In addition to Wilson and Clark, the following women's star athletes made appearances in the commercial: Sabrina Ionescu, JuJu Watkins (college basketball), Sophia Smith (soccer), Alexia Putellas (soccer), Jordan Chiles (gymnastics) and Sha'Carri Richardson (track).
The commercial sparked positive reactions from fans. The theme of the commercial was proving the doubters wrong. If someone says you cannot do something, then you should prove them wrong was the general idea. With plenty of star-power leading the way, Nike is receiving no shortage of promising feedback.
The game itself, though, has not exactly been a competitive affair. The Philadelphia Eagles lead the Kansas City Chiefs 24-0 at the half. Kansas City is looking to earn a third consecutive Super Bowl victory, but doing so will require a big second half comeback.
Of course, anything is possible when Patrick Mahomes is leading the way. Perhaps the Chiefs can prove their doubters wrong and upset the Eagles in the second half.
A'ja Wilson, Caitlin Clark lead Nike's Super Bowl commercial
Wilson is arguably the best player in the WNBA. She has led the Aces to multiple championships while also winning three WNBA MVP Awards. She most recently earned an MVP award in 2024, while Wilson also led the Aces to WNBA Finals victories in both 2022 and 2023.
Clark, meanwhile, established herself as a star in her rookie season during the '24 campaign. She ultimately earned the WNBA Rookie of the Year Award and even finished fourth in MVP voting.
Wilson and Clark are two of the most popular athletes in all of sports right now. Clark carried her popularity from the college basketball world into the WNBA last year. Wilson, however, has been arguably the best WNBA player for years now.
The Aces and Fever stars are set to continue leading the way moving forward. They will have plenty of help from players such as Angel Reese and Breanna Stewart. JuJu Watkins, who was also featured in the commercial, is one of the most popular athletes in college basketball and she has the ceiling of a WNBA superstar.
In other words, women's basketball is in a great position at the moment. The same can be said for women's sports in general.
