Wednesday was a special night for A'ja Wilson and the Las Vegas Aces. The defending champions bounced back from Sunday's loss to New York with an 86-75 win over Caitlin Clark and Indiana. Wilson missed the game against the Liberty with an ankle injury, but she was her usual dominant self against the Fever.
The Aces superstar added another WNBA record to her resume. With 26.4 seconds left in the second quarter, A'ja hit a jumper to surpass Jewell Loyd's previous WNBA record of 939 points in a single season.
Wilson finished with 27 points (11-of-28), 12 rebounds, three blocks, two steals, and two assists. It was hard to believe she was in a walking boot a few days ago. She's unstoppable.
Aces hilariously congratulate A'ja Wilson for WNBA single-season record
Las Vegas' social team had a trick up their sleeve. As soon as A'ja surpassed the record, the Aces' first tweet trolled (and congratulated) the superstar.
In case you're lost, Wilson dates Miami Heat star Bam Adebayo. The two have kept their relationship lowkey, but it's no secret that they're together. Last week, Wilson was in South Florida to see Adebayo receive the key to Miami-Dade County. Mayor Daniella Levine Cava called A'ja out.
This week, Wilson's people threw her under the bus. After the game, she responded to Las Vegas' tweet.
On Thursday morning, Bam decided to join the fun.
A'ja and Bam are the WNBA/NBA's power couple. Not only do they share the same profession, but they're both from the Carolinas.
It's hard to keep a relationship out of the spotlight when you're a professional athlete, but A'ja and Bam did a good job of that at first. It didn't take long for fans to catch on, especially after Bam started to attend Aces games during the NBA offseason.
When so much of your life is put under a microscope, keeping what you can private is nice. A'ja and Bam haven't publicly admitted they're in a relationship. Maybe they'll continue to keep what they can out of the public eye even though everyone knows.
It's been an exciting summer for the couple. Wilson should add another WNBA MVP trophy to her case before the NBA season starts. Maybe she'll also add another championship trophy.
Bam, in case you didn't know, you're lucky! Not everyone can say they date one of the greatest WNBA players of all-time.
