Unbelievable offseason heist would immediately solidify Fever’s contender status

Can the Fever pull it off?

The Fever’s goal for the 2025 season was to build a contender. While they didn’t get to the finals, they showed the resilience and fight necessary to win at the highest level. Once a new CBA is agreed upon, free agency will offer the perfect opportunity for the Fever to round out their roster and prepare the team for another deep playoff run.

Pretty much every veteran in the league will be a free agent, including some of the biggest stars in the game, like A’ja Wilson, Sabrina Ionescu, Breanna Stewart, and Napheesa Collier. While many stars will simply re-sign with their teams for significantly more money than the current CBA would allow, some big names may also be on the move. The Fever will undoubtedly be one of the many teams chasing a big offseason addition.

In the No Offseason episode from October 17, The Athletic’s Ben Pickman proposed that the Fever should go after Jackie Young in free agency—a bold and albeit unrealistic bid that would immediately solidify the Fever’s status as a title contender.

“If I’m [the Fever], I’m making whatever is the equivalent of the biggest plea I can for Jackie Young,” Pickman said. “I don’t think I would expect her to leave, right? But she is an Indiana native. She played at Notre Dame. If you can ever try and lure someone out of the Las Vegas Aces’ ecosystem, that is a player that I’m certainly going after, making the biggest swing I can.”

Jackie Young is one of the best two-way wings in the WNBA

After winning three championships with the Aces, Jackie Young has firmly established herself as one of, if not the, best two-way wings in the WNBA. She averaged a career-high 20.4 points in the playoffs along with 4.8 rebounds, 5.5 assists, and 1.4 steals. She was the Aces’ primary scoring option on the perimeter while also guarding the other teams’ best guards/wings. Young also made a leap as a playmaker this season.

If the Fever could get Young next to Caitlin Clark, Kelsey Mitchell, and Aliyah Boston, they would easily have one of the most dangerous starting lineups in the league. She would provide important perimeter defense and size next to Clark and Mitchell and give the Fever another playmaker and high-level scorer.

Jackie Young is unlikely to leave the Aces

Young played all seven seasons of her WNBA career with the Aces. Over that time, she won three championships and formed one of the most lethal duos in the league with A’ja Wilson. It is difficult to imagine that Young would ever want to leave the Aces while Becky Hammon and Wilson are still there and their championship window is still wide open.

Pickman also noted on No Offseason that Aces president Nikki Fargas told him that one of her main goals for the offseason was to keep Wilson, Young, and Chelsea Gray in Vegas—an expected goal after the trio just led the Aces to another championship.

If all three return and the Aces build another cohesive supporting cast around their stars, we should see Las Vegas in many more finals over the next few years.
