It's October 2025 and the UConn Huskies and South Carolina Gamecocks — two teams who are certainly entering the 2025-26 NCAAW season as the teams to beat — have yet to recruit any new players for 2026. On top of that, it doesn't seem as if either team is particularly concerned, and the fact that both teams haven't put a tremendous emphasis on recruitment is likely a sign of things to come.
UConn and South Carolina are among the top schools that just about any women's basketball player could hope to attend, which means they're also hugely in demand on the transfer portal. They're apparently so in demand that both programs can rely on the portal to stack their rosters, which means more time and resources can go into building instead of seeking.
Of course, there are a few players both programs have quietly monitored and courted. Five-star power forward McKenna Woliczko visited South Carolina before making the decision to commit to the Iowa Hawkeyes, and UConn is reportedly interested in both Jerzy Robinson and Olivia Vukosa.
South Carolina recently made a big announcement
Plenty of news is rolling out now that the WNBA is winding down and we're inching closer toward the college season. On October 1, several outlets reported that two of South Carolina's games will be broadcast nationally on ABC, a major feat for both the program and for NCAAW basketball in general.
The first will be on February 8, when the Gamecocks host Tennessee at home in Columbia, and the second will be a week later when South Carolina and LSU go head to head.
While the first game will be dynamic, the second has the capacity to go completely off the rails — and that's probably why it will air at 8:30 pm ET, smack at the height of primetime. Both South Carolina and LSU's programs have huge fan bases, and ABC clearly believes a lot of people will tune in to watch the match (this is the first women's college basketball game to air in primetime on the network ever).
The match is also likely to draw a lot of viewers for a second, and just as important, reason: the game will pit MiLaysia Fulwiley, who transferred from South Carolina to LSU after the conclusion of the Final Four tournament this year, against her former program for the first time during the 2025-26 season.
