Even though the transfer portal doesn’t officially open until April 6, the Cyclones have been receiving a steady stream of confirmations from players entering the process. As the mass exodus continues, does Audi Crooks have to consider a similar fate to maintain her reputation as one of the NCAA's most exciting prospects?

The transfer portal has become a controversial topic in the world of the NCAA. However, given that players cannot declare for the WNBA draft until they are 22, decisions that may be considered selfish must be made to ensure they give themselves the greatest chance of reaching the promised land. WNBA roster spots are scarce compared to the volume of athletes competing at the college level, so making the right personal choice is crucial.

Crooks has already proven she is a devastating offensive threat that few defenders have been able to contain. Throughout the 2025-26 season, the physical center averaged 25.8 points and 7.7 rebounds, while shooting 64.9% from the floor.

Several programmes would be desperate to acquire an inevitable scorer like Audi Crooks, but what she must weigh up is the defensive responsibility each particular team will require her to shoulder. This is undoubtedly a weak spot of Crooks' game, and it is something that she will want to conceal during the most important year of her college career.

For example, UCLA’s roster has boosted Lauren Betts’ growth and helped her shine on offense. Once the NCAA Tournament wraps up and Betts graduates, that spot will be left open. Crooks would benefit from a system that prioritizes working through the middle of the court; however, she will be asked to show significant improvement on defense, which could be a major issue.

If she genuinely believes her future will benefit most by staying loyal to the Iowa State Cyclones, then she should remain with the team.
