The transfer portal won't officially open until the Final Four is finished next month, but that doesn't mean players aren't already announcing their intentions. Several players from programs who have ended their March Madness runs have annonced plans to enter the portal this year.
The transfer portal will open on April 6, and this year will only be open for 15 days — which means it closes on April 20. That doesn't give players a lot of time to find new teams, which may be why some are making their announcements now.
That list includes at least two players from Tennessee, as well as players from Mississippi State, and Iowa State. Here's a look at players who have already made their portal announcements:
Deniya Prawl and Alyssa Latham, Tennessee
Prawl, who spent her freshman year playing for the Tennessee Lady Vols, announced she will be the second player from the program to enter the portal. Alyssa Latham also previously announced her intention to depart Knoxville.
Latham was in her second year in Knoxville and started in 16 of the 27 games she played. (It's worth pointing out that under Caldwell's system, starters tend to earn their spots based on how they performed in the previous game, and she also rotates players in and out of a game in groups.)
Latham spent one year at Syracuse, and will leave Tennessee with one year of college eligibilty remaining.
Prawl's decision to leave the school was reported by ESPN's Andraya Carter. She wrote on X, "ennessee Lady Vol Freshman Guard, Deniya Prawl, has entered the transfer portal. Prawl, a 6’2 Top-20 class of 2025 recruit and McDonald’s All American, averaged 4.0 points in 15.5 minutes per game this season."
Awa Fane, Mississippi State
Fane told On3 on March 23 that she plans to enter the portal this year. She joined the program from Panola College, and veraged 3.2 points per game while shooting 35.1% from 3. Fane spent her junior year with Mississippi State, and will have one year of college eligibility left with the program she ends up choosing.
Aili Tanke, Lilly Taulelei, Reagan Wilson, Reese Beaty, Iowa State
Iowa State will see four players enter the portal this year: Aili Tanke, Lilly Taulelei, Reagan Wilson, and Reese Beaty have all made their intentions known.
Tanke spent two seasons with Iowa State and played in 44 games, of which she started in six.
Taulelei played for Iowa State for two seasons and appeared in 43 games.
Wilson started in three games and appeared in 59 games over two seasons. She's averaged 2.1 points per game, 0.8 rebounds per game and 0.9 assists per game for the program.
Beaty, who was in her freshman season with Iowa State, started in two games and played in 27.
