The Indiana Fever and Atlanta Dream are heading into their upcoming two-match slate in similar positions. Neither team achieved their Commissioner's Cup goal, and both teams have something to prove right now.
The Fever are coming off a five-game win streak, something they'll hope to extend tonight at Gainbridge Fieldhouse and Saturday night in Atlanta. Their 113-91 win over the Toronto Tempo this week has the team close to the Dream in standings. Atlanta is coming into tonight's match after their own 102-77 win over the Tempo on June 14.
The Fever's win streak could be buoyed or decimated beginning as soon as today. The former would empower the team as they march toward All-Star and, ultimately, a playoffs run. The latter could set the team back and foster more conversations and speculation about what is and isn't working.
The Dream is more or less in the same spot. After coming close last season, Atlanta has made their own playoffs intentions more than clear so far this year. The Dream is still playing without Brionna Jones, who is expected to rejoin the squad soon after missing the season so far with an injury, but they're playing some of their strongest basketball this year.
The Fever won the last game against the Dream
Indiana took home the 83-71 win over Atlanta when the two teams last met in Indianapolis on June 4. That game was carried in large part by Kelsey Mitchell, who scored 25 points, and Aliyah Boston, who added 19 of her own.
But the Dream has continued to evolve game by game, and have had a strong beginning to the 2026 season that's starting to turn into a strong middle, too. The addition of Angel Reese has given the Dream the rebounding prowess they needed, and the team's starting line-up have been putting in nearly 40-minute games all season.
There's always a lot of interest and chatter when any team that boasts Caitlin Clark and Reese meets. For the last two years, interest surged when the Fever met the Chicago Sky. Since Reese was traded to Atlanta, there's been an uptick in scrutiny and expectations. Luckily, for a lot of fans the so-called Clark/Reese rivalary has fallen by the wayside, and the focus has turned more to how good both teams are, and what can be expected of them when that much talent is on the basketball court.
