Rumors have swirled about DeWanna Bonner's future in the WNBA. At 37 years old, some people around the WNBA world speculated that Bonner could retire. However, the Connecticut Sun star reportedly said she is planning to play in 2025, per Emily Adams of the Hartford Courant.

Bonner made the comments during her exit interview. Although she is planning to play in the WNBA next year, that does not mean she will return to the Sun. Bonner and Alyssa Thomas are among the Sun players set to enter free agency. The Sun have work to do during the offseason in order to avoid losing the two star players.

Either way, DeWanna Bonner will play at least one more season.

Connecticut enjoyed a respectable 2024 season. They endured some ups and downs but still managed to reach the WNBA Semifinals in the postseason. They challenged the Minnesota Lynx and made things interesting before Minnesota ultimately won the series in five games. Perhaps the Sun's success in 2024 will lead to a reunion between Bonner and the team.

Of course, Bonner may want to join a team with a better chance of reaching the WNBA Finals. The 37-year-old still plays at a high level and will likely draw interest in WNBA free agency. It will be interesting to see where Bonner ends up in 2025.

How DeWanna Bonner played in 2024

Bonner helped to lead the Sun throughout the '24 campaign. Connecticut would not have played as well as they did without her. She averaged 15 points, six rebounds and two assists. Bonner was selected to her sixth career All-Star team as a result of her impressive play.

The Sun will likely attempt to re-sign her. It will be intriguing to see if Bonner has interest in returning to Connecticut.

Sun's offseason outlook

The Sun reached the WNBA Semifinals but they still have some uncertainty on the roster. As aforementioned, Bonner and Thomas will be free agents. Connecticut finished as the No. 3 seed in 2024 with a 28-12 record so they cannot afford to lose their stars. If they do, Connecticut will need to find a way to replace them with other stars.

This upcoming offseason will be crucial for the Sun. They may be forced into a rebuild if they are unable to re-sign certain players. There is also a chance that Connecticut will get even stronger by bringing the stars back and adding much needed depth.
