Spanish teen Awa Fam has made headlines as the top European prospect in the 2026 WNBA Draft class. She is not the only player from Spain with WNBA potential, though. 19-year-old point guard Iyana Martín is also an interesting prospect, and could hear her name called in the first round of the upcoming draft.

Martín signed her first pro contract in 2022 and has competed in the top Spanish league, EuroLeague, and EuroCup ever since. After the 2024-25 season, she was named the EuroLeague Young Player of the Year. She was also the MVP at the 2023 U19 World Cup.

As a young point guard who can run an offense, shoot threes, and contribute on defense, and who already has pro experience, Martín is an interesting prospect for WNBA teams looking for talent to develop. Her performance in the first round of the EuroCup playoffs only reinforced her potential. Martín proved that she could be one of her team’s leaders in a high-pressure situation despite her young age.

Martín was one of Avenida’s most productive players

Martín’s Perfumerias Avenida is matched up with the Turkish club Emlak Konut SK for the opening round of the playoffs. Avenida secured a hard-fought 81-78 win in the first game and Martín played a big role in the victory. She is the youngest key player on the roster, but still helped lead her team throughout a close game with big implications.

Martín played the third-most minutes on her team but still picked up Jessica Thomas full court on almost every possession. She also tied with Claudia Soriano for a team-high 17 points. While it wasn’t her most efficient scoring game, Martín sank three 3-pointers and went 6-7 from the free-throw line. She also got four rebounds, four assists, and one steal.

Martín is still young and has things to improve, like her efficiency and turnover numbers, but she also has experience playing with and against long-time professionals. That sets her apart from the top guard prospects in the NCAA. WNBA teams already saw young European guards like Leila Lacan and Carla Leite find success in the U.S. this past season. Martín could be the next player in that line, even if she doesn’t come to the WNBA right after being drafted.

Depending on who they land with the third overall pick, Martín’s skill set would make her a great fit for the Storm. Skylar Diggins, Brittney Sykes, and Erica Wheeler are all unrestricted free agents and in their 30s. Even if all or some of them return in free agency, they won’t be part of the Storm’s long-term core around Dominique Malonga. The only young player on the roster is Nika Mühl, who returned from an ACL tear not too long ago. She missed the 2025 season and only played 16 games in 2024. So, the Storm could use another young point guard next to Malonga. Olivia Miles would be the perfect lottery pick for the Storm, but she may not make it past the Lynx in the draft. Martín would be a great second option.
