The Lynx still have a chance

The Minnesota Lynx were defeated 73-70 in the first game of their semifinals series against the Connecticut Sun on Sunday. Although the Lynx are the favorite in the series, the Sun played well and narrowly earned the Game 1 victory. This series is far from over, however.

Minnesota led the Western Conference in 2024. They displayed signs of emerging as a true championship contender. The Lynx did not play up to their standards in Game 1, but they will likely get back on track in Game 2. It is worth noting that Minnesota still only lost by three points despite not playing their best game.

Three-point shooting

The Sun feature a reliable defense. There is no question that Connecticut made things difficult for Minnesota in the first game of the series. However, the Lynx led the WNBA in team three-point shooting percentage in 2024, recording a mark of 38 percent. On Sunday, Minnesota shot just 25 percent.

Minnesota is destined to bounce back. Although Connecticut will surely continue to challenge them on the defensive end of the floor, it is difficult to envision the WNBA's best three-point shooting team struggle at such an alarming rate once again.

Turnovers

Turnovers can completely change the dynamic of a game. The Lynx did a respectable job of taking care of the ball in Game 1, finishing with only 11 turnovers. The Sun only had nine turnovers, though.

Still, the turnover battle could positively impact the Lynx moving forward. They need to continue to take care of the ball. Causing a few more Sun turnovers will be important, however, as Minnesota had 16 points off turnovers. If they cause the Sun to make even more mistakes on Tuesday, Minnesota may be able to earn a pivotal advantage by scoring off turnovers.

Napheesa Collier

Collier had a respectable, albeit far from spectacular game on Sunday. Collier, who finished second in 2024 WNBA MVP voting, had 19 points, nine rebounds and four assists. Those are impressive numbers for most players, but Collier is more than capable of increasing those statistics.

In order to defeat the Sun, Collier will need to play at an elite level while leading the Lynx. Yes, it will require a team effort without question. With that being said, having a star to lead the way will only help matters.

Game 2 is scheduled for 9:30 PM EST in Minnesota as the Lynx look to even the series at one game apiece.
