The Connecticut Sun defeated the Minnesota Lynx in competitive fashion in Game 1 of the WNBA semifinals on Sunday. Connecticut earned a 73-70 victory over Minnesota on the road. The Sun entered the game fresh off a sweep of the Indiana Fever and they certainly have momentum at the moment. Sun star DeWanna Bonner made WNBA history in Sunday's game as well.

According to espnW, Bonner now holds the record for most WNBA playoff appearances with 83. Bonner's impressive feat only made the win that much more enjoyable for the Sun.

Marina Mabrey led Connecticut with 20 points. Alyssa Thomas added 17 points and 10 rebounds. DiJonai Carrington had 13 points and nine rebounds. Bonner, meanwhile, recorded a double-double with 10 points and 11 rebounds.

The Sun utilized a team effort in the win. Connecticut features a quality combination of talent and depth, making them one of the most dangerous teams in the 2024 WNBA postseason.

The Lynx entered the series as the favorite. Minnesota can still bounce back in the series without question. However, earning a win on the road gives Connecticut a crucial advantage.

Sun star DeWanna Bonner has enjoyed a tremendous WNBA career

The Sun are focused on the victory. Bonner's accomplishment should not be overlooked, though. Some players struggle to reach the postseason at all in their careers, so making 83 postseason appearances is truly incredible. Bonner will continue to add to that total moving forward.

Bonner is a six-time All-Star who has played in the league since 2009. She played for the Phoenix Mercury from 2009 through the 2019 campaign before joining the Sun in 2020. Bonner has continued to find success in Connecticut, making three of her six All-Star teams with the Sun.

In 2024, Bonner was selected to the All-Star team. She finished the season with a points per game average of 15. She added 6.0 rebounds, 2.0 assists and 1.2 steals per outing. At 37 years old, DeWanna Bonner is still playing at a high level.

Bonner would love nothing more than to lead the Sun to a WNBA championship. Connecticut still has plenty of work to do, though. Nevertheless, it does not get much better than a 3-0 start to the postseason.

The Sun will attempt to remain undefeated in the 2024 playoffs on Tuesday against the Lynx. The game will be played in Minnesota once again before the series returns to Connecticut on Friday.
