The Indiana Fever are currently the hottest team in the WNBA. Indiana has won three games in a row and five of their past six overall as of this story's writing. So will Caitlin Clark and the Fever reach the 2024 WNBA Playoffs?
Clark, who may earn MVP consideration, has played well all season. She has stepped up since the Olympic break, playing at an even more consistent level. At the very least, Clark seems poised to win the WNBA Rookie of the Year Award. Of course, Clark's teammates have also played well. Overall, Indiana seems to be in a tremendous spot as a team and the standings are beginning to reflect that.
Current WNBA standings
The top five teams in the WNBA have already clinched a postseason berth. That means the New York Liberty, Connecticut Sun, Minnesota Lynx, Las Vegas Aces and Seattle Storm will continue playing past September 19.
In the WNBA, eight of the 12 total teams earn postseason spots. The Fever's strong play in recent action has seen them move up to the No. 6 overall position in the standings. They have the same record as the Phoenix Mercury, as both teams are currently 16-16.
Fever's playoff position if the season ended today?
The Fever, who are the No. 6 seed, would play the No. 3 Lynx in the postseason if the season ended today. The Indiana and Minnesota season series is tied at one games apiece.
It goes without saying, but the season does not end today and there is plenty of competitive regular season basketball left to be played. The Fever have a good chance of reaching the postseason but have yet to clinch an official spot.
Indiana's magic number to officially book their ticket to the playoffs is three. They need to win three games or the Chicago Sky and/or Atlanta Dream need to lose three games for the Fever to continue playing past September 19.
