Las Vegas Aces superstar A'ja Wilson is the 2024 WNBA MVP Award favorite without question. She has enjoyed a phenomenal 2024 campaign. Sure, Wilson has some challengers in the MVP conversation, but she is on track to win her third career MVP. However, Caitlin Clark has recently emerged as an MVP candidate.
Clark is playing well but she isn't quite at Wilson's level yet. The Indiana Fever star will likely win the WNBA Rookie of the Year Award, but earning the MVP will require an incredible ending to the '24 campaign for Clark. Still, some reports have mentioned that Clark could make things interesting.
Caitlin Clark's 2024 rookie season
Clark dealt with no shortage of hype before the season. Her performance suggests it was well-deserved. Clark has lived up to expectations so far. In fact, some may even argue the Fever rookie has exceeded expectations.
The Fever upset the Connecticut Cut on Wednesday. Indiana now holds a 15-16 record as of this story's writing. Clark is averaging over 18 points and 8 assists per outing. She is also recording just under 6 rebounds per game.
There are some areas of her game where she needs to improve, though. Clark is turning the ball over 5.5 times per contest. Additionally, Clark is shooting just over 33 percent from beyond the arc. She often faces immense defensive pressure, so Clark will need to learn how to be more efficient overall.
Nevertheless, Clark is doing everything she can to help the Fever win games. She will likely earn some MVP consideration. A'ja Wilson's season, however, has been terrific.
A'ja Wilson continues to dominate
The Aces star is averaging just over 27 points per game to lead the WNBA. She is also averaging 11.7 rebounds, 2.7 blocks and 2.3 assists per game.
Las Vegas was recently upset by the Dallas Wings, losing 93-90. Yet, Wilson dropped an attention-catching 42 points in the Aces defeat. Her team endured a down night overall but Wilson still almost led them to a win.
A'ja Wilson is unstoppable at times. She understands how to dominate in the paint and she can also shoot from deep if necessary. Wilson is only taking 1.5 three-point attempts per outing, but she is connecting on those attempts at a respectable 35.6 percent rate.
So will Caitlin Clark upset A'ja Wilson in the 2024 WNBA MVP race? Unless Clark records jaw-dropping numbers over the final few weeks of the season the answer is probably no. That does not mean it is impossible, though.
