Diana Taurasi added another impressive accomplishment to her incredible WNBA resume during Monday's New York Liberty-Phoenix Mercury game. Taurasi surpassed Linday Whalen in all-time assists, via the WNBA. Taurasi's 2,349th assist of her career placed her in front of Whalen, as she now has the fourth most assists of all-time.

The moment occurred on a pass from Taurasi to Brittney Griner in the post. Griner took one dribble before creating space and finishing the shot near the basket. Taurasi, who is 42 years old, will look to continue to climb the WNBA assist leaderboard. However, she still has a long way to go to catch Ticha Penicheiro, who is third all-time with 2,599 career assists. Courtney Vandersloot (2,798) and Sue Bird (3,234) rank No. 2 and No. 1, respectively.

Diana Taurasi's historic legacy

Taurasi has the most points scored of all-time. She is now in the top four for assists. Of course, Taurasi is also a three-time WNBA champion, 2-time WNBA Finals MVP, and an 11-time WNBA All-Star. She has accomplished no shortage of other feats in the league as well. Taurasi has an argument for earning the greatest WNBA player of all-time title.

Taurasi's Mercury are currently in fourth place in the Western Conference as of this story's writing. Phoenix still has a chance to reach the postseason. The Mercury are doing everything they can to give themselves the best possible opportunity to compete at a high level.

Taurasi would surely love to win at least one more championship before her career comes to an end. Whether she accomplishes that goal or not, however, Taurasi will be remembered as one of the best players to ever play in the WNBA once she does decide to leave the game.
