A'ja Wilson was likely already going to win the WNBA MVP in 2024. She seemingly erased any doubt with her historic accomplishment on Sunday, however. Wilson led the Las Vegas Aces to an 84-71 victory over the Connecticut Sun, as Wilson scored 29 points in the win. Wilson also scored her 1,000th point of the season, a feat that had never been accomplished in WNBA history before Sunday, per ESPN.

Wilson has had challengers in the MVP conversation throughout the '24 campaign. In fact, even Caitlin Clark has been mentioned as an MVP candidate. Clark has enjoyed a tremendous rookie year but Wilson is going to win the 2024 WNBA MVP Award.

A'ja Wilson on track to win third career MVP

Although not quite as dominant as in recent seasons, the Aces have still played well. Las Vegas will have an opportunity to compete for their third consecutive championship. Wilson, who has already won two MVP awards in her career, is in the middle of one of her best seasons. The Aces star entered Sunday's game with an average of 27 points per outing, a mark that leads the league. She is shooting just under 52 percent from the field and over 33 percent from beyond the arc.

Wilson is a talented scorer to say the least. She impacts the game in multiple ways, however. Wilson entered Sunday's game averaging 12.1 rebounds, 2.3 assists, 1.9 steals and 2.7 blocks per game. She is a two-time WNBA Defensive Player of the Year for a reason.

It is difficult to consider anyone more dominant than Wilson in today's game. She is among the most impactful and unstoppable superstars on both ends of the floor. A'ja Wilson is arguably the best player in the league right now.

Aces looking to finish 2024 season strong

The Aces have two games remaining on the schedule before the regular season comes to an end. Las Vegas will travel to Seattle on Tuesday for a clash with the Storm. That game will be important as the Aces and Storm are battling for the No. 4 seed in the WNBA playoff picture.

The Aces will play their final regular season game at home against the Dallas Wings. The Wings and Aces will go head-to-head on Thursday in a Western Conference matchup.

A'ja Wilson and the Aces are headed to the postseason, but entering the playoffs with positive momentum will be important.
