A sense of humor is always appreciated.

Paige Bueckers and Caitlin Clark have been pitted against one another more or less as long as they've played basketball. The pair have always been among the best players in the game. They were each drafted as the No. 1 overall pick (Clark in 2024 by the Indiana Fever, and Bueckers in 2025 by the Dallas Wings). And while plenty of people have attempted to make up WNBA rivalries between Clark and other athletes, or Bueckers and other athletes, the true rivalry has always been between these two.

But a rivalry doesn't just have to be negative, and it doesn't have to mean that players don't like each other or don't get along. It's always appeared that Clark and Bueckers have a genuine respect for one another, and they don't speak badly of one another in public. But, sometimes, that rivalry does rear its head on the court — which is where it should.

The Indiana Fever traveled to Dallas to play the Wings Thursday night, yet another opportunity for fans to see this rivalry in action. The game was also the final regular season match between the two teams of the season, and the Wings managed a 91-85 win over the Fever. Perhaps that put Bueckers in a great mood (understandable and justified), and prompted a funny exchange that nearly immediately hit social media like a tsunami.

Clark was dribbling late in the second quarter when she and Bueckers got tangled up after the latter drew a foul. Clark was pretty heated in the moment (as she is wont to be), and roughly pulled her arm away. Bueckers didn't have a big response, but did turn towards Clark and said two words: "Calm down."

Clark is often the first person to speak to her competitive spirit, and the resulting crash outs that so often accompany her game have become a topic this season. So that made Bueckers' response all the funnier; sometimes Clark really does just need to be told to calm down. To her credit, Clark didn't seem to care at all in the moment or afterward, and just went back to the game — she fed the ball to teammate Kelsey Mitchell, who tied up the match at 42-42 before the half.

The moment gave the online WNBA community something to enjoy no matter who you were rooting for last night, and was a reminder of what's fun about the league. Sometimes players call each other out — and sometimes, you really just need to calm down.
