The Washington Mystics are 2-0 to begin the 2025 season. They found success despite rookie Georgia Amoore previously suffering a season-ending injury. It goes without saying, but Amoore's injury was a devastating blow. Amoore, who is dealing with an ACL injury, had to undergo surgery and posted a message on Instagram following the procedure.
"Overwhelmed with gratitude and love," Amoore wrote. "I know I have the best people and the most amazing support around me to help attack this head on. Sometimes this world has a crazy way of telling you to slow down, appreciate things just a little bit more, and to soak everything up. I’ll grow physically and mentally over this period ( Coach G😉) and keep counting the blessings and silver linings daily. I will crushhhhhh whatever it is that tries me nexttttttt 💪."
Amoore was selected No. 6 overall in the 2025 WNBA Draft by the Mystics. Washington had a quality draft, also selecting Sonia Citron and Kiki Iriafen in the first round. The Mystics' future is bright as a result. The hope is that Amoore can return next year and make an impact.
At the moment, the guard is focusing on preparing for her injury recovery. She is confident that she will "crushhhhhh" any more obstacles that come her way. Amoore's message on Instagram will surely excite fans of the Mystics.
Despite her injury absence, Washington has managed to still find success so far this season. On Sunday, Brittney Sykes led the team to a big win against the Connecticut Sun with 27 points. Citron and Iriafen -- the No. 3 and 4 overall picks in the 2025 WNBA Draft -- have also played well to begin their WNBA careers.
The Mystics could surprise the WNBA world in 2025. A 2-0 start does not exactly mean this is a championship contender, but Washington is establishing themselves as a potential postseason squad.
The Mystics will look to earn their third consecutive victory to begin the '25 campaign on Wednesday night in a road matchup against the Golden State Valkyries. Tip-off is scheduled for 10 PM EST as Washington continues its current road trip.
Meanwhile, updates on Georgia Amoore's injury recovery will be provided as they are made available. It will be a long journey for Amoore before she is able to return, but the Mystics guard is clearly willing to accept the challenge.
