Washington Mystics' first-round pick Georgia Amoore suffered an ACL injury during a recent training camp practice, the team announced.

"Washington Mystics guard Georgia Amoore suffered a right ACL injury during Tuesday's practice," the Mystics wrote on social media. "Amoore and the team will examine treatment and rehabilitation options and provide an update as appropriate."

Amoore, who spent her final college basketball season at Kentucky after previously playing for Virginia Tech, was selected by the Mystics with the No. 6 overall pick in the 2025 WNBA Draft. Despite questions about how her height of 5'6" would translate to the WNBA, Moore's ceiling remained intriguing. As a result, Washington made her a first-round selection.

Moore is now dealing with an ACL injury, however. It is a devastating update for a player with plenty of potential. Washington will provide further updates as they are made available.

Mystics' Georgia Amoore suffers injury

Amoore, 24, played four seasons with Virginia Tech before transferring to Kentucky for the 2024-25 campaign. The move went according to plan, as the guard enjoyed a strong final season at the college basketball level. She ended up averaging 19.6 points, 6.9 assists and 2.3 rebounds per outing. Amoore also shot 42.3 percent from the field and 33.6 percent from three-point land.

Amoore led Kentucky to a deep run in the NCAA Tournament. Although they did not win the national championship, Amoore still played well in her first -- and only -- season with the Wildcats.

The Mystics, who had three picks in the first-round of the draft, were clearly impressed with Amoore. Heading into the draft, it was not clear when Amoore would end up being selected. Some mock drafts had her as a top five pick, while others did not have her getting drafted until the end of the first-round.

Amoore's talent spoke for itself, but as mentioned, there were questions as to whether or not her height would translate to the WNBA. Her potential as a play-maker in addition to her scoring prowess suggested she could find success at 5'6", though.

The Mystics may now need to wait before seeing what Georgia Amoore can do in a WNBA game given this unfortunate injury update. Amoore's official injury timeline has yet to be revealed. ACL injuries often lead to long injury absences, though.

Washington's first preseason game is scheduled for Saturday, May 3. The Mystics will open the regular season at home on May 16 in a matchup with the Atlanta Dream.
