The Minnesota Lynx reached the WNBA Finals before ultimately getting defeated by the New York Liberty in 2024. In 2025, Minnesota wants to take the next step forward and win the championship. Napheesa Collier will lead the way once again, but depth will also be of the utmost importance. As a result, the Mercury recently made two training camp signings.
According to the WNBA transactions page, the Lynx signed Camryn Taylor and Christyn Williams to training camp contracts. The moves may not draw too much attention, but they could prove to be important during the 2025 WNBA campaign.
Camryn Taylor
Taylor is a forward out of Virginia who displayed signs of potential at the college basketball level. After landing with the Lynx ahead of the 2024 season, Minnesota made the decision to waive her in May. In similar fashion to this recent update, Taylor had previously signed a training camp contract with the team.
She is looking to make the Lynx this time. Taylor could play an impactful role during the season if given an opportunity. At the very least, she can provide valuable depth at the forward positions.
Christyn Williams
Williams, 24, played her college basketball at UConn. She was originally drafted by the Washington Mystics in 2022. After dealing with an injury, she later signed with the Mercury. However, Phoenix would ultimately waive her before the 2024 campaign. Now, Williams is hoping to make the Lynx's 2025 final roster.
Minnesota would benefit from extra guard depth. Williams could make the team with a respectable preseason. Of course, nothing is guaranteed.
Minnesota Lynx's 2025 season outlook
The Lynx emerged as a legitimate contending team in 2024, joining the New York Liberty and Las Vegas Aces in the conversation. Las Vegas had won back-to-back championships in 2022 and 2023, while New York was the best team in the WNBA during the 2024 season. Yet, Minnesota made things interesting against New York in the WNBA Finals.
The Liberty were able to emerge victorious, but the Lynx have the talent to make noise in the standings once again. Perhaps the signings of Williams and Taylor will help matters. After all, extra depth on the roster never hurts.
Competing for a championship in 2025 will not be a simple task. Teams such as the Indiana Fever and Phoenix Mercury could compete alongside the top teams in the WNBA. The Lynx, though, should not be overlooked.
