Former Las Vegas Aces guard Sydney Colson has reportedly agreed to a one-year contract with the Indiana Fever, per Alex Philippou of ESPN. The Aces won back-to-back championships in 2022 and 2023 with Colson on the roster. Although the team fell short of a third consecutive WNBA Finals victory in 2024, Colson will still bring valuable experience to the Fever.

Kelsey Mitchell recently agreed to re-sign with the Fever. Caitlin Clark is fresh off a strong rookie campaign. Aliyah Boston features a high-ceiling. DeWanna Bonner recently joined the team as well. This is a Fever squad with high expectations, and Colson should help Indiana reach the next level.

What Sydney Colson brings to Indiana Fever

Colson, 35, made her WNBA debut during the 2011 campaign with the New York Liberty. She has spent the past three seasons in Las Vegas with the Aces, however. Although Colson did not necessarily produce especially impactful numbers, she understands what it takes to win at the WNBA level.

In 2024, Colson averaged 2.5 points and 1.0 assists per outing across 31 games played. Colson recorded just 8.0 minutes per game, though.

Indiana has a number of young players on the roster. Fans may only look at statistics at times, but players and teams understand the importance of veteran leadership, especially a veteran who is a champion such as Colson.

Colson played a role in two championships with the Aces. She has been teammates with superstars such as A'ja Wilson. This signing is going to help the Fever take a step forward regardless of Colson's final numbers.

Fever could make more moves

The Fever have been linked to many players this offseason. Indiana has made some upgrades, but they could look to make even more additions through free agency or trades.

The Fever will be a fascinating team to follow throughout the upcoming 2025 WNBA season. They were interesting to watch in 2024 despite being eliminated in the first round of the postseason. Perhaps the Fever will make a deeper postseason run this season as they continue to upgrade the roster.

Even if Indiana does not make a championship run in 2025, their long-term future appears to be bright. With that being said, the Fever should not be counted out in 2025. With a veteran and champion such as Sydney Colson on the roster, Indiana will be more prepared for the playoffs.
