Two of the three members of the Indiana Fever’s big three put together career years in what has been an unexpected season riddled with injuries. Kelsey Mitchell and Aliyah Boston have been exactly what the Fever needed: consistent weapons. Their efficiency has been unmatched, and their stats back it up, making them both popular candidates for the All-WNBA First Team.

What does this award represent? Well, it represents the league's five strongest players who have performed efficiently throughout the entire season. It's hard to argue that both Boston and Mitchell haven't done this. What makes their seasons even more impressive is that they've done it all while being under the most pressure, playing for a team that has been short-handed all season long.

The players chosen for the All-WNBA teams each year are voted on by a panel of sportswriters and broadcasters. Receiving enough votes for this award is a massive individual achievement. Many players could make their claim for it, but Mitchell and Boston's efforts in 2025 are unmatched. Their teammate, Caitlin Clark, was a recipient of the award in her rookie season in 2024, so the Fever have certainly been in the spotlight.

Kelsey Mitchell has embraced leadership in a season full of obstacles

No one is arguably more deserving of an All-WNBA First Team selection than Kelsey Mitchell. The veteran guard has put the team on her back all season long and especially during times head coach Stephanie White needed her the most. She currently ranks third in scoring (No.1 among all guards) and averaged 20.3 points in her last 10 games.

Mitchell‘s performance this season was rather impressive. She staked her claim as having the most double-digit scoring games during a season in WNBA history. Perhaps her most notable performance this season came back on August 17 when the Fever trailed by as many as 21 points in the game. After coming out at halftime with only four points in the first two quarters, Mitchell managed to put on a 38-point performance, leading the way for a Fever comeback win in overtime and one that ultimately saved their season. She surpassed teammate Caitlin Clark's single-season scoring record for the Indiana Fever after hitting over 770 points.

Stats and winning awards aren't what is important to Kelsey Mitchell. Doing anything she can to help her team win, however, is. No other player on the current Fever roster has endured the ups and downs the franchise has gone through more than Mitchell. This is what made re-signing her to a super-max contract to return this season so important. She's a selfless difference maker, which is a quality that can't be coached and is one that the Fever organization certainly values. It likely makes Fever fans cringe to think of where the team would be this season without Mitchell, given all of the season-ending injuries they've faced. Kelsey Mitchell is an important piece to the Fever's success and gets to lead them on what hopes to be a deep playoff run.

Aliyah Boston has held down the middle for the Indiana Fever

Another important and reliable piece in the Fever's rotation has been 3-time All-Star Aliyah Boston. She's held her own in the center position, making her a strong favorite for her first All-WNBA honor. Boston has been another consistent part of the Fever's playoff-clinching success. After the team's massive win over the Chicago Sky on Friday, she now has the 4th most 5-plus assist games by a center in WNBA history. Remember, she's only in her third season in the league. Boston (155) is only second to Candace Parker (166) in most assists in a single season by a center in WNBA history.

There was some speculation that she would struggle amid the absence of her pick-and-roll partner Caitlin Clark. Boston quickly silenced those doubters. She averaged 15 points and 8.4 rebounds in her last 10 games. Her rebounding has been a huge asset for the Fever as they struggled to protect the rim last season. Having a teammate to support her in the paint like Natasha Howard, who brings championship experience, has been a good growing opportunity for Boston. Her double-double performance against the Connecticut Sun back on August 18 set a new single-season record in franchise history (15).

Boston's performance in 2025 has been a difference maker in the Fever's success, especially with the season-ending status of Caitlin Clark's injury. She was the Eastern Conference Player of the Week after recording three straight double-doubles. Heading into the playoffs, Boston's continued mid-range stability and leadership will be a winning formula for the Fever.
