Kelsey Mitchell is a free agent. If Mitchell returns to the Indiana Fever, then the team likely won't pursue a trade for Las Vegas Aces guard Kelsey Plum. If Mitchell ends up with a new team, though, should the Fever consider trading for the Aces star?

The Aces recently made the move to core Plum. As a result, she will not enter free agency. A trade could still come to fruition, though. Plum did not receive a contract extension and there is a possibility that she may be open to a fresh start. Nothing is official, but the idea of a trade is something that should not be completely ruled out.

Should Fever trade for Kelsey Plum?

Why would the Fever try to acquire Plum, though? After all, they already have a star guard in Clark. Shouldn't Indiana look to add depth in the frontcourt? Indiana could certainly still make some frontcourt additions, but Plum and Clark could be a dynamic duo in the backcourt. And they would form a quality trio with Aliyah Boston.

Plum, 30, has played at the WNBA level since the 2017 season. She has established herself as one of the better guards during her time in the league. Plum is a three-time All-Star who even earned MVP consideration in 2022.

Plum's veteran experience could help Clark continue to improve as well. Clark is already a star in the WNBA, but bringing in another veteran like Plum wouldn't hurt. Mitchell, however, is also a reliable veteran who has played in the WNBA since 2018. Indiana's primary goal should be to bring Mitchell back.

If Mitchell does decide to sign elsewhere, though, then the Fever should at least consider pivoting to Plum.

Plum's future with Aces

The Aces earned back-to-back championships in 2022 and 2023. A'ja Wilson is set to lead the team once again in 2025. The Aces would likely prefer to keep Plum on the roster, but if she wants a fresh start, Las Vegas will surely consider making a trade.

Plum has enjoyed a tremendous career with the Aces. Fans of the team would love for the team to keep her on the roster. The same can be said for Mitchell in Indiana as well.

In the end, this situation depends on whether or not Mitchell re-signs with the Fever. Indiana will likely attempt to bring her back, so it will be a situation to closely monitor.
