The Chicago Sky recently made a roster move. According to the WNBA transactions page, Chicago signed Alex Wilson to a rookie scale contract. The move is set to give Angel Reese and the Sky more help for the 2025 season.

Chicago Sky sign Alex Wilson

Wilson most recently played basketball in Australia. The guard is averaging just under 16 points per game this season. She is one of the better players in the Women's National Basketball League in Australia, however, she will now make the move to the WNBA.

At 5'9", Wilson could be a guard option for the Sky during the upcoming 2025 season. Chicago would like to take a step forward in 2025 and adding extra guard depth certainly will not hurt matters. The Wilson signing will not make or break the Sky's season, but it's a low-risk move with the potential to pay dividends down the road.

Wilson's experience in Australia could prove to translate to the WNBA. She will receive the opportunity to make the team.

Sky looking for big 2025 season

The Sky finished 2024 with a 13-27 record. They were in postseason contention before Angel Reese suffered an injury late in the year. Chicago ultimately missed the postseason, but they still have a bright future.

Reese is one of the best players in the WNBA. She earned WNBA Rookie of the Year consideration a season ago, but Caitlin Clark ended up winning the award. Still, Reese played well. She has continued to improve this offseason while playing in Unrivaled.

The Sky are likely still a year or two away from emerging as true championship contenders. They are not quite at the same level as teams such as the New York Liberty and Minnesota Lynx. However, the Sky could certainly take a step forward during the '25 campaign. It would not be surprising to see Chicago clinch a postseason spot.

At the moment, the Sky are simply focused on making their final moves before the preseason. Adding depth players such as Wilson who could end up impacting the team in 2025 is the Sky's goal at the moment. They likely will not make any more big signings/trades during the offseason, but anything is possible.

With the season just a couple of months away, the Sky are ready to make a serious postseason run after failing to reach the playoffs last year.
