Indiana Fever star Caitlin Clark surely wants to continue to improve in all facets of her game. However, there is one specific goal that Clark had during the offseason, something Alexa Philippou of ESPN reported on Tuesday, via espnW.
"That was really a huge focus for Caitlin Clark this offseason was getting stronger," Philippou said. "And she actually said that she could feel the difference already through these first two days of training camp."
Caitlin Clark wanted to get "stronger" in offseason
Although Clark spent plenty of time in the gym, Philippou also reports that Clark focused on "rest and reset" during the offseason. Clark went into the WNBA following her final season with Iowa in college without much time off, so there wasn't much rest for her heading into the league. Clark had some time off during the Olympic break in July-August, but even that was only a couple of weeks.
This past offseason presented Clark with an opportunity to step away from the game for a bit. She had played basketball for almost a year straight after all. Clark was seen golfing and attending various events in the offseason. However, Clark also still worked on her game, of course, while also building muscle.
The Fever made an effort to improve the roster, bringing in a number of reliable players to help Caitlin Clark, Aliyah Boston and Kelsey Mitchell. Those three players will lead the way, though.
Mitchell is a star veteran who is one of the better scorers in the league. Meanwhile, Clark and Boston -- who are both only 23 years old -- represent the future of the franchise. Indiana's offseason additions should provide the roster with necessary balance. The Fever are hoping to take a step forward on the defensive end, as their defense struggled a season ago.
Fever preparing for preseason games
Caitlin Clark and the Fever have now completed a couple days of training camp. Indiana is preparing for the preseason. The Fever's first preseason game is scheduled for Saturday, May 3 against the Washington Mystics. Indiana will then play the Atlanta Dream on Saturday, May 10.
The Fever will begin the regular season on May 17 in a highly-anticipated matchup against the Chicago Sky. Heading into the game, the storyline will swirl around the Caitlin Clark-Angel Reese rivalry.
At the moment, though, Indiana is looking to finish training camp strong before the preseason gets underway.
