Biggest All-Star snub should be painfully obvious after first returns of fan voting

Atlanta Dream guard Allisha Gray was ranked outside the top ten in fan voting despite career-best numbers for a playoff contender.

Allisha Gray and Napheesa Collier were named WNBA “Players of the Month” in May for the Eastern and Western Conference, respectively. In the first release of fan All-Star voting, Collier was appropriately ranked second in total votes behind the top vote-getter Caitlin Clark. Collier is a favorite for MVP and has led the Minnesota Lynx to an 11-1 record and a berth in the Commissioner’s Cup championship game.

However, Atlanta Dream guard Allisha Gray was ranked outside the top ten in fan voting, falling to 14th overall in voting despite also putting together a career season.

Trading for Gray is paying off for the Dream

Gray gained popularity in 2024 after winning the WNBA Kia Skills Challenge and Starry 3-Point Contest at WNBA All-Star weekend. This season, she has helped Atlanta to an 8-4 record while setting career highs in various statistics, including her first 30-point game. Atlanta traded multiple first-round picks to get Gray in a 2023 deal with the Dallas Wings, and Gray has continued to improve with each season.

Atlanta finds itself in position to potentially host a playoff game with Gray’s performance alongside her teammate and former first overall pick Rhyne Howard, All-Star free-agent signings Brionna Jones and Brittney Griner, and the sharpshooting rookie Te-Hina Paopao.

Allisha Gray is having an All-Star-worthy season

So far in 2025, Gray has played the fifth-most minutes in the WNBA. The only players ahead of her are on the Los Angeles Sparks (who have played one more game than the Atlanta Dream) and her teammate Howard. Gray has made her minutes count offensively, as she has tallied the fifth-most points scored in the WNBA with the sixth-most field goals made. She has the fourth-highest field-goal percentage for any player with 155 field goals attempted, behind only frontcourt players Napheesa Collier, Nneka Ogwumike, and Dearica Hamby. Gray has even proven effective in getting to the free throw line this year, with the fifth-most free throws made in the league.

From outside the arc, Gray has the fourth-most three-pointers converted, behind only Sabrina Ionescu, Kelsey Plum, and Howard. Gray has the best three-point shooting percentage out of any player in the league with at least 57 three-point attempts. For comparison, Gray is shooting 42.3 percent on 71 attempts, while number-one overall vote-getter Caitlin Clark is shooting just 35.5 percent on only 62 attempts. Gray has tallied these impressive numbers while also playing excellent defense and limiting turnovers. In fact, 42 players in the WNBA have more turnovers than Gray.

Gray still has a chance to be named an All-Star

Half of the voting for the All-Star starter spots comes from the fan vote. The remaining half of the vote is split between players and media members while coaches select the reserves. We will see in the next update if Gray has done enough to improve her share of the fan vote. The 2025 rosters will be revealed on Tuesday, July 8th and that will reveal how her fellow players and members of the media view her game and evaluate her All-Star candidacy.
