Chicago Sky star Angel Reese played well in her rookie season during the 2024 campaign. Caitlin Clark took home Rookie of the Year honors, but Reese was still a candidate for the award. In 2025, will Reese take a step forward?

The 22-year-old made a significant impact a season ago, but she does have room to improve. She averaged 13.6 points per game to go along with 13.1 rebounds per outing. Reese is already one of the best rebounders in the league. She also found ways to score at a respectable level despite only shooting 39.1 percent from the field.

The Sky will need Reese to be more efficient on her field goal attempts, however. Chicago likely believes she can be one of the best players in the league, but Reese's efficiency must improve.

Looking at Reese's 2025 outlook, there is a realistic chance that she will see an increase in production. Here is why Reese can earn serious WNBA MVP Award consideration in 2025.

Angel Reese poised to make MVP run?

The Sky have made an effort to improve the roster around Reese. If Chicago can play at a more consistent overall level, that is something that will only help the former LSU superstar.

In 2024, Reese finished 12th in MVP voting despite her lackluster field goal percentage. If she can find the bottom of the net on a more consistent basis, one has to imagine Reese will receive more MVP consideration.

The Sky know that she will rebound at a high level. It's rare for a rookie to immediately become an elite rebounder, but that is exactly what Reese did last year. In her second year, Reese should at least replicate -- if not improve upon -- her 2024 rebounding numbers.

Reese has also continued to work hard on the defensive end of the floor. She still needs to improve in some areas, but her defensive game has potential.

Summary

If Angel Reese records a respectable field goal percentage then her points per game will increase. If she continues to dominate the glass and if the Sky can win more overall games, she will become a true MVP candidate.

No, she may not win the award this season. After all, A'ja Wilson is still in the WNBA, and she's seemingly always among the favorites. However, it would not be shocking to see Angel Reese finish within the top five of 2025 WNBA MVP voting.
