Angel Reese is reminding the WNBA who she is — but needs to fix one key area

She put in a strong performance against the Dallas Wings.

Angel Reese more than bounced back during Friday's game against the Dallas Wings. She racked up 15 points and 9 rebounds (some have insisted she really have 10 — only time will tell if the stats are changed), but also recorded five turnovers. That's been a bit of a hallmark of Reese's game, but there's plenty of reasons to believe that Karl Smesko and the Atlanta Dream will find a way to change that this season.

Let's start with the good: Reese finished the night with 7-of-11 shooting, and the Dream was completely in charge of the game for the vast majority of it. Reese was a key figure in that dominance.

She's also an abudantly talented player, and seems to be with a team who has embraced her, in a city that seems to love to celebrate everything that makes her Angel Reese. She's more than capable of attacking any on-court issue and turning it around, and the 2026 season may well give her an opportunity to do just that.

Angel Reese is no stranger to turnovers

The thing about Reese's turnovers is that they happen under a variety of circumstances, something that may make it more difficult for her to work through this season. Sometimes she turns the ball over during an offensive foul; at other times, she's thrown the ball away while attempting to do something else. For some players, turnovers are part of the game and part of how they play it — and Reese might be one of those.

Reese has improved her shooting considerably since she was drafted in 2024, something that makes turnovers matter a lot less. After all, if you're getting buckets, a turnover here and there isn't such a difficult blow.

But things become problematic when she's not shooting well and getting turnovers. That's what Dream fans saw Sunday during the team's 85-84 loss to the defending champions, the Las Vegas Aces. While the score was close, Reese only pulled off 1-of-8 shooting and had eight turnovers, and at the time she was averaging five turnovers per game (over the course of three games).

The Dream put a lot into making the trade for Reese, which probably means they'll also put a lot into working with her on both consistent shooting and her turnover rate. The end — or even the middle — of the 2026 season could showcase a new and improved Angel Reese, something that Atlanta is hoping to see.
