Angel Reese led the Chicago Sky to their third win of the season on Sunday, earning a 78-66 win against the Connecticut Sun. Hailey Van Lith scored the most points for Chicago with 16, but it was Angel Reese's 11-point, 13-rebound and 11-assist triple-double that set the tone for the game. She also added three steals and two blocks.
According to espnW, it was Reese's first triple-double in the WNBA. Reese's big moment came at the perfect time for Chicago.
The Sky entered the game with only two wins. Their 2-7 mark wasn't exactly impressive -- and a 3-7 record is not anything to write home about either. However, Reese stepped up when the Sky needed it most. If she endured a bad game on Sunday, the Sky may have lost.
Losing to the Sun -- who also only had two victories in 2025 heading into the game -- would have been a demoralizing blow. The defeat would have negatively impacted the team's confidence. Reese surely would have received no shortage of criticism had she performed poorly against a team like the Sun.
With Reese playing well and the Sky earning a win, though, there is suddenly reason to believe that Chicago could make a postseason run. Perhaps Reese is bouncing back following her challenging start to the '25 campaign as well.
The Sky still have plenty of work to do, of course. With that being said, the Los Angeles Sparks and Washington Mystics only have four total wins. The Indiana Fever and Golden State Valkyries have earned five total victories. In other words, the Sky are only a couple of games back from being in the middle of the overall WNBA standings.
Chicago could be on the verge of capturing important momentum. If Angel Reese can find consistency, this Sky team could become a realistic contender. The Sky will still have doubters for now, but they can silence the critics by going on a winning streak.
Chicago's next game is scheduled for Tuesday in what projects to be a winnable contest against the Mystics at home. The Sky will then host the Phoenix Mercury on Saturday before playing the second of a back-to-back in Atlanta against the Dream next Sunday.
Angel Reese and the Chicago Sky will do everything they can to continue to take steps forward in the overall WNBA standings.
