A'ja Wilson and the Las Vegas Aces have earned two championships within the past three years. The Aces already feature depth on the roster, but they recently made a trade to get even stronger ahead of the 2025 WNBA season.
The WNBA announced the trade on its X (formerly Twitter) account. In a sign-and-trade, the Aces are set to acquire guard Dana Evans in exchange for the Washington Mystics' 2025 No. 16 overall pick and the Aces' 2025 No. 22 overall pick.
Wilson is fresh off another impressive season, as she earned her third career MVP award. The Aces made another deep postseason run after winning back-to-back championships during the 2022 and 2023 seasons. However, the Aces were defeated by the New York Liberty in the semifinals in 2024. As a result, they know they could use extra depth.
Of course, Las Vegas has already made a number of roster changes. The Aces acquired Jewell Loyd in a three-team trade with the Seattle Storm and Los Angeles Sparks. The deal also saw Kelsey Plum get traded to LA.
It will be intriguing to see if this Aces team can make another championship run in 2025. Overcoming the best teams in the league, such as the Liberty, will still be difficult. Adding players such as Evans to the roster will only help matters, though.
What Dana Evans brings to Las Vegas Aces
Evans, 26, has played at the WNBA level since the 2021 season. She spent the 2024 campaign in Chicago with the Sky. Evans ultimately averaged 7.2 points, 2.4 assists and 1.1 rebounds per outing. She shot just 37.7 percent from the field, but she did record a respectable 37.6 three-point shooting percentage on 2.8 attempts from beyond the arc per game.
A 5'6" guard, Evans will provide depth for Las Vegas. Her improved three-point shooting will be something to monitor as well. Evans has only shot 33.8 percent from deep for her career, but perhaps she is developing consistency with the three-point shot.
The Aces should be able to contend once again. Plum's departure will be a difficult adjustment, as she had become a key player in Las Vegas. Adding Loyd gives the Aces another star next to Wilson, however. Between the Aces' star-power and depth, they will have a realistic opportunity to make noise during the upcoming 2025 season.
The only remaining question is whether or not the Aces will make any more additions as the offseason moves forward.
