The Las Vegas Aces have already been one of the busiest teams from a roster move standpoint in recent weeks. On Wednesday, Las Vegas made another move, waiving forward Jordyn Jenkins, according to the WNBA transactions page. The roster move comes ahead of the Aces' preseason opener against the Dallas Wings on Friday.
Teams are beginning to waive players on a consistent basis as they prepare for the season. Rosters must meet a specific requirement before the regular season, and many players are currently on training camp contracts. Some of those players will receive the opportunity to prove themselves in preseason games. Others, such as Jenkins, will not receive that chance (at least with the Aces).
Jenkins could end up landing a contract elsewhere. The former UTSA player signed a training camp contract with Las Vegas on April 21. Although her brief time with the Aces did not go according to plan, Jenkins accomplished an impressive feat simply by signing the contract.
According to goutsa.com, Jenkins became the first player in UTSA women's basketball history to land a contract with a WNBA team.
Jenkins ultimately spent all three of her college seasons at UTSA. She averaged 19.2 points, 7.1 rebounds, 1.2 assists, 1.3 steals and 1.1 blocks per game during her career with the program. Jenkins also shot 48.2 percent on her field goal attempts and 34 percent on her three-point attempts.
The program had not produced any WNBA talent which is likely why Jenkins did not receive much attention heading into the draft. Nevertheless, her numbers suggested she could make an impact with a WNBA team.
It would not be surprising to see Jenkins earn another opportunity soon. She features potential as a 6'0" forward and could help multiple teams around the league. It remains to be seen which teams could emerge as potential suitors.
Aces preparing for preseason
The Aces are in the process of gearing up for their first preseason contest of 2025. As mentioned, they will play the Wings on Friday to begin the '25 preseason. The game will be held at Notre Dame.
Las Vegas will then play the Phoenix Mercury on May 6 to conclude the preseason. The Aces' attention will then strictly shift to preparing for the regular season, as Las Vegas' first game of the '25 campaign is scheduled for May 17 against the New York Liberty in what should certainly be an exciting affair.
