The Connecticut Sun recently made three roster moves. According to the WNBA transactions page, Connecticut waived Morgan Maly on Saturday before also waiving Mya Hollingshed and Abbey Hsu on Monday.

Sun waive three players

Maly, who attended Creighton, is a guard who averaged 17.3 points per game at the college basketball level in 2024-25. The Sun's decision to waive her came shortly after she landed a training camp contract.

At 24 years old, Hsu played her college basketball at Columbia and was later drafted to the WNBA. She was initially selected in the 2024 WNBA Draft and ended up landing a training camp contract in 2025 before getting waived.

Hollingshed is a 25-year-old who was drafted by the Las Vegas Aces in 2022 after playing at Colorado. She also landed a deal with the Sun before being waived.

Connecticut preparing for 2025 WNBA season

The Sun endured a difficult offseason, losing a number of important players. They have made a few roster moves in recent weeks in hopes of building a more complete team, but the 2025 season projects to be a challenging one in Connecticut.

The Sun played well in 2024. They finished the year with a 28-12 overall record and ultimately reached the postseason. After defeating the Indiana Fever in the first round of the playoffs, the Sun dropped their semifinals series against the Minnesota Lynx. Connecticut played hard and forced five games, but Minnesota ultimately emerged victorious.

There was seemingly some promise, though. The Sun's core of stars proved that they could compete with the best teams in the WNBA. However, through both trades and free agency, the Sun saw players such as DeWanna Bonner, Alyssa Thomas and DiJonai Carrington depart this past offseason. Connecticut's roster looks extremely different at the moment than it did a season ago.

Barring unforeseen circumstances, the Sun will struggle to clinch another postseason spot. They will still look to play hard on the floor, of course.

The Sun will begin their preseason journey on Sunday, May 4 against the Seattle Storm. Connecticut will then finish the preseason with a head-to-head matchup with the New York Liberty on Friday, May 9. The Sun's regular season opener is scheduled for May 18 against the Washington Mystics. Despite the low expectations, the Sun will do everything they can to start the new campaign on a positive note.
