The Golden State Valkyries are set to make their WNBA debut in 2025 as the league's 13th team. Golden State already selected players in the expansion draft, but they will also have an opportunity to add more talent in the upcoming 2025 WNBA Draft. The Valkyries will select fifth overall, so they likely won't receive the opportunity to draft potential superstars such as Paige Bueckers and Olivia Miles. With that being said, there is one specific player who projects to be a tremendous fit in Golden State.

Valkyries should select Kiki Iriafen in 2025 WNBA Draft

JuJu Watkins receives most of the attention on the USC women's basketball team. Watkins is a star and deserves the attention she has received, but Kiki Iriafen's performance should not be overlooked.

There are no guarantees that Iriafen will still be available at No. 5 overall in the draft, but it is possible. If she is still available, the Valkyries should unquestionably consider selecting her.

The 6'3" forward is currently averaging 18.1 points, 8.3 rebounds, 1.8 assists and 1.0 steals per outing while shooting 50.7 percent from the field. Iriafen spent her first three seasons in college at Stanford before transferring to USC for the 2024-25 campaign. The move has worked out well, as she has continued to establish herself as both a star and a top prospect for the upcoming 2025 WNBA Draft.

Iriafen is focused on helping USC prepare to make a championship run at the moment. The Trojans have enjoyed a quality season and will be among the favorites in the tournament. Iriafen also has her basketball future to think about, and becoming the franchise star with the Valkyries may appeal to her.

Valkyries could build around Iriafen

Iriafen's skill set should translate well to the WNBA. She can score at a respectable level while also making an impact on the glass and on the defensive end of the floor. Iriafen still has room to improve overall, but it would not be surprising to see her emerge as a star in the WNBA.

Golden State will likely need a couple of years before they become true championship contenders. Iriafen will likely need a year or two before she truly becomes a star in the league. The timelines add up, making Iriafen the perfect fit in Golden State.

As mentioned, they may need to pivot in the event that one of the top four teams in the draft selects Iriafen. Golden State should certainly select Kiki Irafen if she is still available at No. 5 overall, though.
