Connecticut Sun head coach gets well deserved extension

For many fanbases, the trust in a coaching staff is a rollercoaster of result-driven opinions. A big win and the crowd is signing your praises, a big loss and the same people are calling for your resignation.

The fans of the Connecticut Sun, myself included, have been lucky over the past five years to have a head coach who differentiates himself through his success, personality, and commitment to the team.

When Curt Miller arrived in CT, the Sun franchise was coming off of back-to-back-to-back last place finishes in the Eastern Conference; it literally does not get worse than that. After one season of getting accustomed to WNBA competition, the Sun began to thrive.

Miller used his scouting prowess to bring in draft picks like Jonquel Jones and Brionna Jones and has now brought the Sun to the playoffs for four consecutive seasons.

More from High Post Hoops

His postseason résumé includes a trip to the 2019 Finals and a semi-final appearance in the bubble last season after two upset victories.

The Sun reward the second-winningest coach over the past three years with a well-earned four-year extension, and he is now tasked with combining last offseason’s splash trade for DeWanna Bonner with the talents of Jonquel Jones, with high expectations for another deep playoff run in 2021.

Free Agency Primer Cont.

In yesterday’s article I went over a few of the early reserved contract signings. For anyone who is craving free agency content all in one place, The Next is archiving each team’s preview, including the most recent breakdown of the Indiana Fever.

The Fever’s first priority will be their own unrestricted free agents, especially 2019 All-Star Erica Wheeler, who was a budding superstar before sitting out the bubble season. Despite rookie Julie Allemand playing well at point guard in her absence, Wheeler is one of the faces of the Indiana franchise and locking her up will be key over the next month.

In terms of new signings, the Fever need to address their defensive woes. Their defensive rating of 111.8 was by far the worst in the WNBA last season, which suggests a defensive stud such as Alysha Clark could be a free agent target.

Outside of The Next, Ben Dull of Winsidr came out with a very in-depth free agency primer that was too good not to mention.
