Another Lady Vol departs

Lady Vols guard Zaay Green is leaving Tennessee, the 6’0 guard announced Wednesday.

Green said her journey “does not end here” and that it was time for her next chapter.

“I would like to thank the fans and everyone else who has supported me through this journey the past two years,” Green said on Instagram. “I’m very grateful for the memories, but due to my actions and decisions and the coaches, it has been best for me to part my ways from the University of Tennessee and figure out what’s best for Zaay Green.”

Green missed the 2019-20 season due to an ACL injury at the start of the season, but in the first two games, she averaged 13 points and 4.5 rebounds.

During her first season, was a member of last year’s SEC All-Freshman team after averaging 9.6 points per game and 4 rebounds. Her load was slated to get even bigger once she returned to action.

Green spent her freshman season at Tennessee under Holly Warlick, where the team finished with a 19-13 (7-9 SEC) record and an historic first-round exit in the NCAA tournament. Following that season, Warlick was “relieved of her duties” and the program was hit with a number of transfers. That season, Green started one game and averaged 3.4 points, 3.4 rebounds and 1.3 assists.

Fellow Lady Vols sophomore guard Jazmine Massengill entered the transfer portal as well as multiple players from Auburn.
