Both Elena Delle Donne and Ariel Atkins are listed as questionable for Game 3 of the 2019 WNBA Finals due to back injuries, Washington Mystics head coach Mike Thibault announced Saturday.
“We’re listing them both as questionable,” Thibault told reporters, “We’re preparing as if neither one will play.”
Thibault went on to say he’s “not counting on them playing.” The Connecticut Sun host the Mystics tomorrow at 3:30 p.m. ET in Uncasville. The series is tied at 1-1.
Delle Donne, the near-unanimous 2019 WNBA MVP made an early Game 2 exit due to back spasms. As far as Atkins, who played a pivotal role in the Mystics’ Game 1 win, there’s more on her injury below:
Atkins’ back seized up Thursday night in non-basketball activity - Thibault said she literally bent over to pick something up. Team learned Friday morning, practiced wo her and is trying to adjust. @WashMystics @TheAthleticWNBA #WNBAPlayoffs
