Tiara for Teaira

Today brings along a great five-game slate, with some great matchups that have playoff implications. Five games offers a lot of options, so let’s check on the best plays for the August 27th WNBA DFS slate.

Phoenix Mercury @ New York Liberty

Phoenix was bolstered by the re-addition of Diana Taurasi (10.6k DK, 7k FD) to the starting lineup last game. She only played 22 minutes, and likely will not play much more than that in this one. She is far too high of a price if she is only playing half the game. Instead, I would recommend either of Brittney Griner (10.9k, 8.5k) or DeWanna Bonner (11.3k, 8k) against an up-tempo New York team. If this game stays close, the pair should play around 35 minutes each.

For New York, the choices are a bit trickier. Coach Katie Smith has begun to see what she has at the end of her bench, and minutes are fluctuating wildly depending on the game. Kia Nurse (7.7k, 5.6k) has remained a constant, however, and is likely the best play on the Liberty. Her FanDuel price is extremely affordable, and she is coming off of a 20-shot performance, where she scored 24 points.

Los Angeles Sparks @ Washington Mystics

This game presents a good test for Derek Fisher’s Sparks. Riquna Williams (7.4k, 5.5k) has returned from her suspension and hit the ground running, amassing 31 points and 24 shots in two games. She is a solid option today, though the Mystics sport one of the best defenses in the league. Candace Parker (9.5k, 7.2k) is the only other Spark I would consider, as she has shown some signs of returning to the dominant 2018 Candace Parker since coming back from her hamstring injury.

More from WNBA

Washington draws a great matchup against 1) an up-tempo team, and 2) a team that might actually be able to keep the game close. Elena Delle Donne (10.5k, 8.2k) has been dominant in limited minutes recently, and if she plays the full game, she likely will be the top scorer on the entire slate. Along the same lines, Natasha Cloud (7.2k, 5.8k) has been grabbing 35+ minutes in close games without Kristi Toliver in the mix. She is another solid option in this great matchup.

Las Vegas Aces @ Indiana Fever

Las Vegas hits the road to meet up with the Fever in a game where the Aces should be dominant. Part of this should be due to A’ja Wilson’s (9.2k, 7.8k) return from her ankle injury. Wilson has returned and is back to her regular minutes, which is somewhere just above 30 minutes. Her price, however, has not returned to normal, and she is around $1000 cheaper than usual. Wilson is a great play.

Indiana is another tricky team who seems to be shifting minutes to younger players. One of these players is the third overall draft pick, Teaira McCowan (7.8k, 6.1k) McCowan has started the last two games, and has shown signs of being an elite player. In the most recent game, McCowan was one rebound from a 20-20 game. She will likely be one of the most popular players on both sites today, and for good reason.

Chicago Sky @ Minnesota Lynx

Chicago is still adjusting to life after Lavender, with Astou Ndour (7.2k, 5.9k) stepping in admirably and playing tremendously. She will once again be a great option, due to her extremely high rebounding rates. A more under the radar option, however, is Stefanie Dolson (6.9k, 5.2k). Dolson has not received the same hype, likely due to some foul troubles, but her minutes have actually increased. I actually like Dolson more than Ndour, regardless of price. The discount is a bonus!

Minnesota has also had some rotational changes, completely dropping Seimone Augustus from the rotation in the last game against Las Vegas. Danielle Robinson (7.5k, 6.6k) stepped in and was excellent, amassing 23 points and 8 assists in 35 minutes. Robinson is once again a great option against a fast paced Chicago team. Aside from Robinson, however, this is a true team, and they do not really have one other player who stands out as a must-play.

Connecticut Sun @ Seattle Storm

Connecticut brings their usual five starters, and each of the five have showcased upside throughout the season. This makes it tricky to pick just one of them, as it seems there really isn’t a rhyme or reason as to which one hits their ceiling in a particular game. The most consistent is likely Jonquel Jones (10.8k, 8k), but she is accompanied by the highest price tag on the team.

For Seattle, it starts and ends with Natasha Howard (11.4k, 8.3k), who has been one of the most dominant WNBA DFS players ever. Howard’s high rate of producing fantasy points, combined with her ability to play a ton of minutes makes her an incredible player. If you are looking for a cheaper option, Jewell Loyd (6.1k, 5.5k) has made her way back to the starting lineup, but has not really returned to her early season form. Today could be the day Loyd gets back to that all-star player.
