WNBA Daily Fantasy preview – August 8, 2019
By Eric Thiel
The Turners of Phoenix
We’re back! A seemingly long stretch of single game slates has passed, and we grab a full 3 game slate today. This slate features some injury news, as well as a high impact trade. Let’s take a look.
Indiana Fever @ Washington Mystics
We start off with a really tough game to pick players from. Washington will likely be 10-15 point favorites, and Indiana has been messing with their rotation. Erica Wheeler (8.3k DK, 7.1k FD) was coming off of an all-star game MVP, and played just 8 minutes in Indiana’s last game without any mention of an injury.

Similarly, Candice Dupree (7.5k, 5.4k) only played 12 minutes in that same game, even though her season average is above 30 minutes per game. This tough to predict rotation alongside a very bad matchup against the best team in the league makes me want to play zero players on this team.
On Washington’s side, there are a lot of good options, but it seems as though a blowout is looming. That should not really matter to Elena Delle Donne (10.7k, 8.4k), who will likely grab her 40+ fantasy points almost no matter the amount of minutes she plays. Somehow, Delle Donne is not the most expensive player on DraftKings.
I also like Natasha Cloud (7.4k, 5.4k), whose price is not increasing whatsoever on FanDuel. $5400 is very reasonable, as Cloud normally plays 30-35 minutes (even in blowouts), and contributes by filling up the stat sheet. She is a great budget option to slide in your lineups.
Phoenix Mercury @ Los Angeles Sparks
The Mercury come into this game super banged up once again. They will once again be dressing only eight players, and unlike the Fever, almost every single Phoenix player is viable, minus maybe Arica Carter and Camille Little. Especially, though, Brianna Turner (4.5k, 4k) and Yvonne Turner (5.5k, 4.5k) are tremendous plays, and are very cheap, allowing you to afford higher priced players.
For the Sparks, the rotation has slowly evolved into more and more of a guessing game. Of course, the big three should get their minutes, but it is still unclear how Maria Vadeeva (4.4k, 5.8k) fits in. Chiney Ogwumike (9.5k, 7.2k) missed a few games, and is far too expensive with such a crowded front court. Vadeeva is interesting, however, grabbing 15 minutes in the last game. Also, if you remember waaaaaay back to the beginning of the year, Vadeeva actually started over Chiney in the first game. Her price on DraftKings is especially a discount.
Dallas Wings @ Seattle Storm
Dallas traded their starting center, Theresa Plaisance, to Connecticut, getting Kristine Anigwe in return. Though I am not 100% certain, my guess is that Imani McGee-Stafford (6.4k, 5.6k) draws a start. If she does, McGee is a great fantasy point producer, amassing over 1 fantasy point per minute played. This makes her a great play.
I also like rookie sensation Arike Ogunbowale (8.6k, 5.9k) on FanDuel. Her usage is still one of the highest in the league, and it seems as though her efficiency has started to become more and more passable. Though the matchup with Jordin Canada will be tough, Arike is likely up to the task today, and will be on a bunch of my teams.
Seattle is very paced down in this spot, and as such, their players are not as enticing as in previous days. Jewell Loyd (6.3k, 6k) is obviously still recovering from her injury, and is not playing her regular 30+ minutes. Despite this, her price is low enough that you are able to take a chance that she gets back to 30+ this game. If she does play over 30, she will certainly be a great play.
