Here are your 2019 Connecticut Sun

The Connecticut Sun have finalized their roster at 12 after waiving Emma Cannon and Natisha Hiedeman this week.

The Sun waived Cannon on May 20 after signing her on April 11. She appeared in all three preseason games and tallied three points and one assist.

On May 23 the Sun waived Natisha Hiedeman, who the Minnesota Lynx drafted with the 18th overall pick in the 2019 WNBA Draft. She joined the Sun the same night after heights were traded for Lexie Brown.

Final Roster

# 31 Kristine Anigwe
# 1 Rachel Banham
# 21 Bridget Carleton
# 23 Layshia Clarendon
# 32 Bria Holmes
# 35 Jonquel Jones
# 42 Brionna Jones
# 40 Shekinna Stricklen
# 25 Alyssa Thomas
# 5 Jasmine Thomas
# 33 Morgan Tuck
# 10 Courtney Williams

The final roster is a prime example of youthful experience. As head coach Curt Miller discussed on Media Day for the fourth straight year the Sun will not have a player 30 or older on their opening day roster. Just four players, Jasmine Thomas, Layshia Clarendon, Alyssa Thomas, and Shekinna Stricklen, have more than three seasons under the belt.

The final roster includes nine members of the 2018 team, two newcomers and one familiar face.

Rachel Banham, Clarendon, Brionna Jones, Jonquel Jones, Stricklen, Thomas, Thomas, Morgan Tuck and Courtney Williams. The new faces are forward/center Kristine Anigwe, who the Sun selected in the first round of the draft, and their second-round pick guard/forward Bridget Carleton. According to Hayes Gardner, at least three players drafted before Carleton failed to make a WNBA roster.

Anigwe averaged 2.7 points and 1.7 in 8.7 minutes per game and Carleton averaged 5.3 points and 1.7 steals in 10.7 minutes over the team’s three preseason games. Both should expect to see key minutes coming off the bench where they should be able to contribute, though the offense will not be expected to run through them.

Bria Holmes will also be returning to the Sun after missing the 2018 season due to pregnancy. She averaged 7.8 points and 1.8 assists in 22.2 points per game in 2017.
