No fluke for Fluker.

Cal State Northridge’s Channon Fluker was named the Big West Player of the Week for games played last week. It is the 14th time in her career that Fluker has taken home the weekly award, putting her in sole position for most all time Player of the Week honors in the Big West Conference. She was previously tied with New Mexico State’s Anita Maxwell who had 13.

In the Matadors’ two wins last week, Fluker averaged 20.5 points per game, 14.5 rebounds, and 5.5 blocked shots. The two games gave her 16 double-doubles this season alone.

In the 68-52 win over Cal Poly San Luis Obispo, Fluker put up 23 points, shot 50 percent from the three-point line, 20 rebounds, and seven blocked shots. That was her sixth career 20 point 20 rebound game as well as the eight time she’s had at least 20 rebounds in a game.

More from Big West

She followed that up in a 73-64 win over Cal State Fullerton with 18 points, a perfect 4-4 from the free throw line, nine rebounds, and four blocked shots. In that game, she was held scoreless in the first half. She scored all 18 of her points in the second half as CSUN completed a comeback after being down by 10.

Fluker has been one of the most dominant players in the Big West Conference for the past few years. She helped lead CSUN to the Big West championship last season and a NCAA tournament appearance. On the season she’s averaging 15.9 points per game on 46.4 percent shooting from the field and 11.3 rebounds.

In addition to her offense, she also been one of the best defensive players in the country, Her 3.8 blocked shots are good enough to put her in a tie for first overall in the nation with Rice’s Nancy Mulkey.

The Matadors will continue conference play this week with at home against Long Beach State.
