Big West Player of the Week is Morgan Bertsch once more
Another win for Morgan Bertsch.
UC Davis’ Morgan Bertsch was named the Big West Player of the Week for games played last week. It is the fifth time this season the Bertsch has taken home the weekly honors, and the eighth time overall in her career that she’s won the award.
She helped lead the Aggies to two wins last week, both of them on the road. During the two-game stretch, she averaged 24.0 points on 50 percent shooting from the field, 7.5 rebounds, 1.5 steals, and 1.5 blocked shots. She also shot 85.7 percent from the free-throw line.
In the Aggies 70-44 win over UC Santa Barbara, she put up 27 points on 10-18 shooting from the field, seven rebounds, two steals, and one blocked shot. She followed that up in their 85-61 win over Cal Poly San Luis Obispo with 21 points, 1-1 from the three-point line, eight rebounds, four assists, and two blocked shots.

It has been a big season for the senior forward from Santa Rosa, CA. Not only did she move into fifth place all time in the Big West for most career points, she is also UC Davis’ all-time leader in career points for both men’s and women’s basketball.
On the season, she is averaging 23.5 points per game on 49.1 percent shooting from the field, 51.7 percent shooting from the three-point line, 82.4 percent from the free-throw line, 6.0 rebounds, and 1.4 blocked shots. Her 23.5 points is leading the Big West and is good enough for sixth overall in the nation.
As a senior at Santa Rosa High School, Bertsch was under recruited and she did not play AAU basketball. Her only offer from a Division 1 school was UC Davis. She’s now become one of the premier college basketball players on the West Coast and most likely has a future in professional basketball after this season.
UC Davis will continue conference play this week as they return home against UC Riverside.
