The Seattle Storm have signed center Mercedes Russell and waived 2018 29th overall pick Teana Muldrow, the team announced Wednesday.

The Storm have added some depth up front early in the season as Crystal Langhorne continues to miss time (rib). Langhorne started every game at center for Seattle last season. Russell, 6’6, was the 22nd overall pick in this year’s draft out of Tennessee. Muldrow, 6’1, is more of a combo forward.

Russell was waived by the New York Liberty toward the end of training camp, but briefly re-joined the team at the start of the regular season prior to the return of Kia Vaughn from overseas play.

The Liberty released Russell and activated Vaughn on Saturday. Russell logged 33 minutes in New York’s first two games of the season, and totaled eight points and nine rebounds in 46 preseason minutes.

Russell shot 58.3 percent from the field in her final season at Tennessee, averaging over 15 points and nine rebounds per game.

Muldrow averaged 18.9 and 8.6 rebounds per game in her senior season at West Virginia. Storm head coach Dan Hughes was impressed with what he saw from the third round pick both in training camp and the preseason.

Muldrow tallied eight points (2-3 3PT), three rebounds and three steals in Seattle’s preseason finale in Phoenix. She appeared in three of the Storm’s first five regular season games, logging just six minutes in total off the bench.
