The Las Vegas Aces have re-signed restricted free agent guard Sydney Colson.

Colson has been with the franchise (then the San Antonio Stars) for each of the past three seasons. She stuck with San Antonio after spending three years out of the league entirely. Colson was drafted out of Texas A&M by the Connecticut Sun in the second round of the 2011 WNBA Draft.

After being dealt to the Liberty, she appeared in 16 games her rookie season.  Colson spent one season playing professionally in Poland after her rookie season. She joined the women’s basketball coaching staff at Rice University in 2015 and spent two seasons with the program.

The 5’8 guard appeared in all 34 games in 2015 and 2016 for the Stars. She averaged 11.6 minutes in 28 games last season.

Colson and Danielle Adams led the Aggies to an NCAA National Championship in 2012. The duo played together in San Antonio in 2015. Adams appeared in 19 games for the Connecticut Sun last season.

Earlier this offseason, the Aces re-signed Cierra Burdick and Sequoia Holmes. New head coach and president of basketball operations Bill Laimbeer also went out and signed two veterans, both unrestricted free agents — 6’2 wing Tamera Young and 6’6 center Carolyn Swords.

Las Vegas has been involved in two trades this offseason as well, both involving centers. The Aces traded Kayla Alexander to the Indiana Fever and acquired 2015 All-Star Kelsey Bone in a sign-and-trade with the Phoenix Mercury.

Most importantly, Laimbeer and the Aces re-signed designated core player Kayla McBride to a multi-year deal. Under new ownership with a new name in a new city, a player of McBride’s caliber and veterans like Colson, Holmes and Young will be key in the franchise’s inaugural season in Las Vegas.
