Wallace was named All-Big 12 First team and Big 12 All-Defensive Team selections by the conference on Wednesday. She averaged 12.9 points and 5.0 rebounds on the season. Baylor head coach, Kim Mulkey, had a press conference this afternoon to confirm the injury.
Alexis Morris will step up into the starting point guard position for the Lady Bears. Morris is averaging 8.3 points and 2.6 rebounds. The freshman has 87 assists, which is second on the team behind Wallace’s 155. Wallace is second in the league and 34th nationally, dishing out 5.5 assists per game.
Charlie Creme, ESPN Bracketologist, tweeted “With Kristy Wallace tearing her ACL and probably not playing in the B12 tournament I now doubt Baylor will elevate to a No.1 seed unless something very unexpected happens in the ACC. Thats even Baylor does still win the B12 tourney” .
Kristy Wallace is the heart of this team and they definately will feel her absence. She plays with so much fire and never gives up on plays. West Virginia shook up the conference tournament last year, so it will be interesting to see how Baylor carries on without their leader. Baylor will play the winner between Kansas State and Kansas, Saturday at 1:30 p.m.
