The Minnesota Lynx have singed Breanna Richardson to a training camp contract. The 6’1 forward played four seasons at Mississippi State and participated in training camp with the Lynx in 2017.

Richardson scored over 1,000 points in her career for the Bulldogs and has played the most games (140) in program history. She appeared in two preseason games for the Lynx last year, tallying eight points, five rebounds and a block in 15 minutes in a May 5 contest against the Atlanta Dream.

Richardson was joined by six other rookies in training camp with the Lynx prior to the start of last season. Chantel Osahor (Washington), Shao Ting (China), Keyona Hayes (Miami), Moriah Mack (New Mexico), Temi Fagbenle (USC) and 2017 12th overall pick Alexis Jones (Baylor) were competing for a limited number of roster spots.

Jones, a 2017 first round selection, went on to make the team and is in line to grow into a much larger role in 2018 with the retirement of Jia Perkins and Renee Montgomery’s decision to sign with the Atlanta Dream.

Fagbenle was the other player of that group to make Minnesota’s 2017 opening night roster. She had been selected by the Lynx in the third round of the 2016 WNBA Draft. Fagbenle decided to forego her pro debut for a year in order to earn her master’s at USC.

The Lynx carried 11 players through most of the 2017 regular season before signing Cecilia Zandalasini in late August. Zandalasini re-signed with the Lynx this offseason as a reserved free agent.

As of Monday, the Lynx have 10 players under contract for the 2018 season, leaving two spots open for the team to make a move in free agency or via trade, sign one (or more) of its 2018 draft picks or sign a player like Richardson out of training camp.

The Summitt’s Howard Megdal currently has the Lynx selecting UConn guard Kia Nurse with the 12th overall pick in his latest WNBA Draft Big Board.
