Sami Whitcomb re-signs with Seattle Storm

The Seattle Storm announced Thursday that they had re-signed reserved free agent wing Sami Whitcomb to a multi-year deal.
Whitcomb was an impact player off the bench for the Storm as a 28-year-old rookie in 2017 with her shooting and defense on the perimeter. Whitcomb spent six seasons playing overseas before getting her chance in the WNBA.
“Sami is an explosive player on both ends of the floor,” said Storm President & GM Alisha Valavanis in Thursday’s release. “Her ability to score in bunches, combined with her energy and ability to mix it up on the defensive-end makes her a special player. We are excited to watch her WNBA career continue to develop.”
Whitcomb, a 2010 Washington grad, scored 22 points for the Storm in their May 26 victory over the New York Liberty at KeyArena. Whitcomb shot 6-for-8 from deep in just her third WNBA game, giving the team a scoring lift off the bench. Whitcomb shot 1-for-6 in 11 minutes off the bench in Seattle’s first round loss to the Phoenix Mercury in the 2017 WNBA playoffs.

It’s a dream to be back on a multi-year deal with the best teammates and the best organization.”
Seattle’s starting center, Crystal Langhorne, was set to be an unrestricted free agent in 2018 — the Storm designated Langhorne as their core player.
The Storm now have nine players under contract for the 2018 season. Unrestricted free agent Carolyn Swords signed with the Las Vegas Aces on Thursday. Veteran guard Noelle Quinn is an unrestricted free agent as well.
