No.7 ranked Texas goes down by a determined TCU squad

After the TCU Horned Frogs had a record-setting win in their last game in the Schollmaier Arena, they brought that same energy to their challenge against No.7 Texas tonight. Labeled the under underdogs, their defensive performance prevailed. A 79-77 final score handed Texas its second loss of the season, first in conference play.

The Frogs were led by Jordan Moore who finished the contest with 19 points, 4 rebounds and 5 blocks. Two of those blocked shots came at a critical point in the game when reigning player of the week, Lashann Higgs, was trying to tie up the game with 25 seconds to go. Higgs put up 18 points, but senior leader Ariel Atkins led the way with 25 points and 6 rebounds. Atkins had the Frogs on their heels as she hit two pull up jumpers to tie the game up in the final minute.

Raegan Pebley got solid production from Amy Okonkwo (12 points and 7 rebounds), Kianna Ray (17 points), and Toree Thompson (13 points). These three have so much game experience so its no surprise that they were leading the way in this upset.

On paper, you would have thought that Texas won just because they led in most categories. The Longhorns won the rebounding battle, the turnover ratio, and even had more assists on 77 shot attempts. BUT, you can’t measure heart. You can’t measure will. You can’t measure how badly a team wants to win. None of that shows up in the numbers, but the Frogs definitely showed it on the court tonight.

In a competitive conference like the Big 12, anyone can win on any given night. TCU will try to extend their momentum as they head to Morgantown to challenge West Virginia again, Saturday at 4pm.
