Pac-12 Players of the Week: WSU’s Hristova, Stanford’s Williams
By Ben Dull
Borislava Hristova of Washington State left little doubt as to whom would earn player of the week honors after week two of Pac-12 Conference play. The redshirt sophomore missed her team’s first two Pac-12 contests due to injury, but returned with a bang Friday night against Colorado. Hristova went for 36 points and five rebounds in WSU’s 89-75 home victory. The Cougars came up short Sunday against Utah as Hristova delivered another strong performance, tallying 29 points, five rebounds and four assists.

Hristova became the first WSU player to earn Pac-12 player of the week honors this season. Oregon’s Sabrina Ionescu had earned player of the week honors for three consecutive weeks and five of the first eight overall. Hristova shot 29-44 (66%) from the field over the weekend. The Cougars now sit 1-3 in Pac-12 play. They will travel to face Stanford and Cal next weekend.
Kiana Williams earned freshman of the week honors from the conference following her strong performances for the Cardinal over the weekend. Stanford split its two weekend contests in Arizona. Williams logged a team-high 34 minutes Friday against Arizona and shot 3-6 from deep.
Williams led the Cardinal in scoring (14 points, 6-12 FG) Sunday at Arizona State. Williams has now started seven games for Stanford and appeared in all 16 contests. She leads the team in three-pointers made with 24 (33.8% on 71 attempts).
Williams is the fourth player to earn freshman of the week honors this season, joining Oregon’s Satou Sabally (3), Cal’s Kianna Smith (2) and Colorado’s Annika Jank (3).
Stanford is now 3-1 in Pac-12 play. They will host Washington State and Washington this weekend.
