For the second time this season a Tennessee Lady Vol was honored with one of the SEC weekly awards, but this time it was for Player of the Week. Senior forward Jaime Nared got the nod after an impressive week for Tennessee while Auburn forward Unique Thompson claimed her second Freshman of the Week award of the season.

Nared helped lead her team to an 82-75 win over #2/4 Texas, the highest ranked opponent that Tennessee has defeated at home since 2010. In the win, Nared scored 23 points and hauled in 13 rebounds, 15 of those points coming in the second half. In the midst of her fourth double-double performance of the year Nared was also able to register four steals in the winning effort, all while playing every second of the game. Her big national television showing followed a 27 point performance in a 131-69 drubbing of Troy several days prior. In that game, Nared shot 10-of-14 while also grabbing six rebounds and two steals. The 131 points scored by the Lady Vols were the third-most points scored in school history.

While it still way too early to tell, the initial readings tell us that the SEC Freshman of the Year race is being led by two players: Promise Taylor of Ole Miss and Unique Thompson of Auburn. Thompson had a double-double in both Auburn wins this week over Louisiana-Lafayette and Southern. Against Louisiana-Lafayette, Thompson scored a career high 29 points, 15 of those coming in the fourth quarter. She also had 12 rebounds. Those 29 points are the second-most ever scored by an Auburn freshman in program history. Against Southern, Thompson had 18 points and 10 rebounds, keeping her ranked first among SEC freshmen in rebounding.

Tennessee is now 10-0 on the season and moved up four spots in the AP poll to #7 in the country. Auburn is 7-3.
